Thought for the Day/Week

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY/WEEK:

"In my view, the Christian religion is most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed...No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

~Noah Webster- preface to 1828 Dictionary~

July- Time with Family- Civil War Reinactment at Latta Plantation in North Carolina

THE CIVIL WAR: (reinactment)The last vacation event was to attend a Civil War reinactment. We hadn't seen one of those in Kansas!

The spokesman: He set the stage for the reinactment. This battle, which was won by the Confederates, actually took place after the war was over. News had not yet reached these troops. This is the main house at the Latta Plantation

July- time with family Charleston- Seafood and an Ocean swim

One thing we were looking forward to was dinner at a seafood restaurant. Cindy recommended "The Crab House". Esther was still going strong! Anticipations!

Most of us ordered shrimp...
bacon wrapped and stuffed with crab. Sarah stayed with something she recognized. While we were eating, the bridge that went over the cove opened up to let boats pass through.
There was a long line of water traffic, even tug boats towing the other boats.
We arrived at Folly Beach after 7:00 p.m.- the van was the dressing room. This day was the first time Teresa and most of the kids had seen the ocean. They found it very SALTY! The kids ran to the water as fast as they could. Some were a little timid...
Others ran right into the crashing waves...
and ran right back out! but not for long!
The waves would often crash over their heads.

BURY ESTHER!
This kept Esther from wondering off!
Amanda sent letters with us to give to Daniel each day. This day it was Charity's turn to deliver it. His first letter was at sunset on the beach.
With tired babies, we travelled home...Cindy has the touch with calming a crying baby.
We arrived back at the lake house at 2 a.m. Swimming in the ocean was the perfect ending to a wonderful day in Charleston South Carolina.- Tomorrow is the wedding rehearsal! (but not before we attend a Civil War reinactment...stay tuned!)
