Thought for the Day/Week

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY/WEEK:

"In my view, the Christian religion is most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed...No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

July- Spending Time With Family- Part 7 Charleston- USS Yorktown

Thursday was the busiest day of our whole vacation. We woke at 4:00 a.m. and travelled to Charleston- to the coast. Our goal was to spend the day seeing things we couldn't see in Kansas. Our first stop was at Patriot's Point, where we were able to walk through the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier... As we pulled into the parking lot, it was a sight to behold! We unloaded...
And headed toward the ship.
It was enormous!
We had crossed the Ravenel Bridge...an engineering marvel.
As we approached the Yorktown, we saw a stingray in the water- not many of those in Kansas!
We made our way through the lower decks first, seeing aircraft of many kinds...
...climbed several flights of stairs......to the galley- an enormous kitchen, meant to feed thousands of sailors during WWII.We found this rather amusing.
This was a sleeping quarters; unless they lower those beds, it could get very uncomfortable!

tactical? The briefing room.
Once we reached the top deck, the purpose of this ship was clear- launching aircraft from the ocean, and receiving them back after their missions.
It was terribly hot that day. Here Dan and Rebecca are enjoyed walking through the top deck.
It was a site to behold, and not something we can see in Kansas!

Some of the guys toured the submarine as well.

Afterwards, we hit the Air Conditioned Gift shop, and enjoyed the treasures we found there- but especially the cool.
