Thought for the Day/Week

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY/WEEK:

"In my view, the Christian religion is most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed...No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

July- Spending time with Family part 6- Wednesday at Wiley Lake

Finally on Tuesday evening, we reached our destination- Wiley Lake just southwest of Cincinnati Ohio. This is the lake house at Wiley Lake in North Carolina in which we were able to stay during the remainder of our trip.
This is the view out our back balcony. It was very sufficient for our needs.
Since this was Dan and Rebecca's 3rd anniversary, we kept the girls overnight Tuesday night, and all day Wednesday so they could go spend it alone together...
I enjoyed my time relaxing with the babies at the lake house...
...and Chris took our 3 girls horseback riding at the Latta Plantation. Hannah Charity Sarah Because of her age, Charity had to prove that she could handle a horse before they let her go.

Much to her delight, she passed the test, and was able to go on the ride through the mountains and woods with her dad and sisters. Dad's horse didn't like it on the trail!!!
Chris was sore for at least 2 or 3 days after this experience!
However, the girls enjoyed this activity!
That evening, the Barbosa family (Kevin's bride-to-be) invited all of the Chaney's to their home for a "get-acquainted" barbecue and time of fellowship.

Cindy, Cathy, Rebecca and I getting to know Gabriella's mom, Rita, and her sisters-in-law, Evonee, and Sandra, who are both from Brazil.
We enjoyed a meal of hamburgers and hot dogs with Gabby's cousins from Brazil, most of whom spoke Portuguese.
However, there were enough bi-lingual folks interspersed in the crowd that we always had someone to interpret. It was a very enjoyable evening with their family. Many of the young people and parents participated in an intense ping-pong tournament.
OK, some games were not so intense.
FELLOWSHIP WITH BELIEVERS EXTENDS BEYOND LANGUAGE BARRIERS:
I think the most exciting thing about this event was visiting with the 3 ladies from Brazil, and hearing how God had led a Baptist missionary from Bob Jones University to come to Brazil over 40 years ago. At that time, Rita's mother attended his services with her 6 small children, and was saved through his ministry. She raised her 6 children to follow Christ, and today, Rita's brother is the pastor of that missionary's Baptist church in Brazil. We American Christians always hear of the foreign mission fields, but rarely do we get to become so intimately acquainted with the fruit of their labor. The fellowship we shared in the Lord was sweet, even with the language barriers...we serve a common Lord.

At midnight, we picked up Daniel and Samuel at the airport.

  1. Wonderful pictures of a very special time. I agree with you totally about the most exciting thing being how God brought everyone to Him and together.
